Sports jobs & management

The sports industry is relatively young having developed fast over the last 20 years. Sports and leisure as a combined sector contribute about 4% of GDP and 2.5 million jobs.
Sport itself provides 2% of GDP and 621,000 jobs. Much of sport is funded by the government, especially at lower levels. Governing bodies get significant funding from the likes of Sport England and UK Sport. About a billion pounds goes to sport from the National Lottery Annualy.

Jobs in the sector are many and varied. Some are very sport specific, such as sports coaching. Some utilise transferable skills from other sectors and are somewhat removed from the sports themselves, such as hospitality. Due to the seasonal and weekend nature of sport significant numbers of temporary and part time jobs exist in the sector.

Senior roles in the sports sector can be very commercially focused. Big Sport organisations are big brands with expectations of significant revenue. Success on the field is often intertwined with commercial success. Coaches, directors, marketers, and all employees provide important contributions to clubs, organisations, and the wider community. Indeed, world cups and major sports tournaments are prime financial properties that even have the capacity to buoy the wider economic market.
