Working as a fitness manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of a gym, health club or fitness centre.

The duties of a fitness manager will vary from location to location, but will typically include:

Qualifications and experience needed
There are different routes to becoming a fitness manager. While some people start as an assistant or even an instructor, then work towards professional qualifications, others complete a foundation degree, BTEC HND or degree before applying for management jobs.
Good choices for foundation degrees, BTEC HNDs and degrees include:
- Sports and leisure management
- Leisure studies
- Sports science
- Recreation management.
What other training and development could I do?
You can develop your career further by completing additional qualifications such as:
- Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Leisure Management
- NVQ Level 4 in Managing Sport and Active Leisure
- A foundation degree in a subject such as sport and recreation management, sport, health and fitness club management, and fitness and leisure management
- A part-time degree in a subject such as sports and leisure management, leisure studies, sports science and recreation management.
Salary and benefit expectations
Managers typically earn between ?17,000 and around ?25,000 a year, while senior managers can earn over ?35,000.
